My Inktober 2018 Artwork UPDATED!

If you haven't heard of Inktober before here's the scoop. An artist named Jake Parker decided in 2009 to make a little challenge for himself to draw and ink everyday in the month of October and he encouraged others to join him. Here we are 9 years later and it's still going strong. Jake puts out what he calls a prompt list, a jumping off point if you will for inspiration of art each day. There is no right or wrong here, only art. So I have participated for a few years now.

I am finally getting around to scanning my own artwork and uploading it here. Below you will see my entries this year. I will update this as I scan more work.

1. Poisonous

I'm going to try to relate all of my pieces to my Grasspeople project, a fantasy adventure. I'll do my best to have a new one each day. This is a cute little scamp known as the stinger mouse. Be careful where you step.

2. Tranquil

This is the Terrace Falls, near Quadnoc, many miles away from the Grasslands.

The indigenous creatures known as the Cheks or Chicken Warriors were searching the black river banks for a small flower known for its healing power. There is safety in numbers because this is home to the Grizzivolous which are vicious hunters.

6. Drooling

Grizzivolous is hungry and hunting on the banks of the Black river.

7. Exhausted

Exhausted. Monks ongoing search for traces of his family led him nowhere. Thoroughly exhausted, he decided to nap in the grass fields not far from the Black river.

As Monk fell into a deep sleep, he began dreaming under the stars about the simpler times of his youth.

Star Trek Holodeck Holographic Tech becoming a reality

OTOY (Octane Rendering) is teaming up with startup Light Field Lab to build holographic content. Light Field Lab raised $7 million this year to complete a prototype of a display technology which is similar to Star Trek’s holodeck. Light Field Lab’s Holographic tech will be installed in the walls of a room to immerse multiple people in virtual worlds without any headgear. 

According to Light Field Lab’s CEO Jon Karafin they’ve been demonstrating prototypes already this year with “No headgear, no head-tracking, no vergence/accommodation conflict, no motion latency, no headaches or eye strain, nor other artifacts associated with other non-holographic technologies,” Karafin wrote in an email. “The panels are flat panel, solid state and directly emissive— meaning there are no moving parts or arrays of projectors or cumbersome accessories. When you see the holographic objects with the prototype system, your eye naturally focuses on the actual object in space, and your brain tells you it’s floating right there in front of you — because it is a dense holographic projection with converging ray bundles that form real images.  The current prototype represents the foundational building block that produces large format panels, walls, and surfaces as we head into manufacturing next year.”

The founder of OTOY Jules Urbach also has a goal of creating Star Trek’s holodeck. OTOY (Octane Rendering) is used by film industry professionals to create hyper realistic scenes like the opening sequence of Westworld. Now imagine walking into a room not knowing any of this.

New York Comic Con 2018 was bigger than last year

This!

It was another amazing year at New York Comic Con! The artists finally get a proper set up after the convention center went through a renovation last year. With that said, there were so many new and exciting reveals. Follow along as I finally get to edit and update all the pictures from NYCC 2018.

One thing is certain, TV and Video Games dominated this years Con. There was an incredible turn out of TV networks like Netflix and HBO with a Game of Thrones pop up.

That didn't stop fans from doing what they do best! Cosplay, Comics and a massive amount of geek merchandising.

Even on opening day, there is an intense amount of people attending this year.

Every year the Cosplay costumes get more and more detailed.

I've taken hundreds of photos this year, and I will continue to post them at the bottom of the page if you want to check back.

Atlas Robot Acting Human

Things are getting surreal. You've probably already seen this a hundred times but if not check out this robot acting human and athletic.

Atlas does parkour. The control software uses the whole body including legs, arms and torso, to marshal the energy and strength for jumping over the log and leaping up the steps without breaking its pace.  (Step height 40 cm.)  Atlas uses computer vision to locate itself with respect to visible markers on the approach to hit the terrain accurately.  For more information visit www.BostonDynamics.com.

Electric Air Taxi Prototype in the UK Takes Flight

It looks like things are moving along in the flying taxi business. Check out the video below.

Vertical Aerospace is building technology to revolutionize how people fly, with the ultimate aim of making intercity air travel personal, on-demand and carbon free. The Bristol-based startup has built and flown the UK's first full scale fully electric vertical take off and landing aircraft. 

Its unmanned technology demonstrator aircraft weighs 750kg and flew across Cotswold Airport in Kemble, Gloucestershire in June 2018 as part of the company’s flight test program.

9/11 Never Forget!

Living in New York during September 11th changed my life. From my tiny apartment in the city I had a view of the World Trade Center Towers through my studio window about a mile away. I would marvel at the immensity of these buildings and the fact that they were built in the 1970's. I had just moved from Los Angeles, so there was nothing even close to that size.

From this window I could see everything. From the moment of impact on, nothing would be the same. The whole thing seemed surreal and for the first few days following this horrific event, I tried volunteering, giving blood and even set up an emergency contact website for people in the ground zero zone. After a few days of watching the horror on television I decided to paint, and give something back.

I was an artist on a mission. I didn't have a lot of money to donate so I decided to create a series of paintings celebrating America and what it stands for while mourning the loss of so many people. The paintings that I punched out were nothing like I've ever done before. Basically they were Americana with a modern twist.

I began with an even theme of 13 paintings symbolizing the original 13 colonies that formed America in the beginning. Eventually I would auction all the work and donate the money to charity as a way to give back. Below are those paintings.
