State of Mind is a futuristic cyberpunk thriller game delving into transhumanism. The game explores themes of separation, disjuncture and reunification, in a world that is torn between a dystopian material reality and a utopian virtual future. It looks like a pretty cool sci-fi game from the teasers at the bottom of the page. It obviously takes some inspiration from Blade Runner, Altered Carbon and a slew of other Cyberpunk Games. Check it out below!

When mind and machine become one – what will remain of humanity?

Berlin, 2048 – The world is on the brink. Lack of resources, illnesses caused by polluted air and water, crime on the rise, war. Governments and companies promise remedies through technological progress. Drones and humanoid robots replace humans in the public sector, everything is interconnected, surveillance has become omnipresent.

Richard Nolan is one of the few journalists openly criticizing this development. When he wakes up in hospital after an explosion and finds that his wife and son have mysteriously vanished, Richard realizes: he and his family have become more than just bystanders in a storm of rivaling ideas pertaining humankind’s salvation between dystopian reality and digital utopia. Instead, they find themselves right at the center of it.

This domestic drama evolves into a thriller about a worldwide conspiracy, which at its core aims to determine the fate of humanity: Could a perfect digital utopia be the answer? A virtual paradise not affected by material needs and quarrels? Could a super-AI be our savior – or would it simply declare us as dispensable since it could not be taught the value of philanthropy?

What will the world look like after this storm, what will remain of humanity?

The game is available for pre-order here from Daedalic Entertainment.

If you follow this site then you know that we usually post progress on the artwork and story for Linder's comic books and graphic novel, current and future technologies, and related things that reflect similarities to the neo-noir futuristic graphic novel Prisoner of the Mind

This includes everything from A. I.robotics, genetics, brain-machine interface, drones, flying cars, spy-tech and more as seen in the graphic novel. But sometimes reality mimics art a little too much.

This is what they have to say about it.

This creation is Mindar, a Buddist robot. The robot was unveiled at Kodaiji Temple in Kyoto to share Buddha's teachings in plain terms. Mindar is modeled after buddhist goddess of mercy, Kannon. The deity transforms itself into different forms to help people and “This time, Kannon changed into an android”.

The wise robot would “help people who usually have little connection with Buddhism to take an interest” in the religion.

Mindar the robot was created by the temple and MR. Hiroshi Ishiguro, a professor of intelligent robotics at Osaka University, It was built by Tokyo-based A-Lab Co.

Purdue University researchers have developed a robotic hummingbird that can pull off
the real thing's characteristic aerial stunts(Credit: Purdue University/Jared Pike)

This new hummingbird drone was designed and built by researchers at Purdue University. The coolest part of it is that it actually flies like a hummingbird. The 3D-printed body has wings made of carbon fiber membranes.

It has an electrical sense of touch and AI algorithms that can analyze those touches, basically creating a map to see in the dark. Bio-inspired robots and drones have been around for a long time, but this one seems closer than ever. Check out the video below.

Here's a cool new stop motion film produced by artist Yamiken.

In the distant future, humanity is hurtling down a path of ruin. Global environmental destruction caused by chemical contamination, radioactive fallout, and UV rays coming through the patchy ozone layer has lead to deterioration of the human genome. In an attempt at escape, humans expanded their sphere of daily existence underground, but they were decimated by an ancient virus that had been sealed there. However, by developing gene recombination technology using the virus’s genes, mankind was able to attain a lifespan that could be called “immortal.”

The human body became inorganic at the molecular level. No breathing or blood circulation was necessary; as long as a faint electric stimulation was present, even existence as a disembodied head was possible. (It was popular to change one’s body as fashion, and bodies that were no longer needed were fitted with AI heads and sold as laborers.)

However, mankind’s new atomic structure was unstable, so once every 10 years it had to be reconstructed. As long as that reset was accomplished, humans could expect “eternal” life, but in exchange, they lost the ability to reproduce. In order to maintain their dwindling workforce, they started to create new beings patterned after humans using cloning technology, but the clones rebelled.

At the end of a long war, a ceasefire was reached that has now lasted 1,200 years, with the two sides living separately_the humans on the surface and the clones below ground. (However, at the border there are incessant skirmishes, and this story’s protagonist is unable to evade one of these attacks.) MORE...

Welcome to 2019 the year when science fiction becomes reality. Oh, wait, it kinda already is.

Who knew that the company that brought us the Hyundai Excel in 1986 for under $5000 new, would develop a concept car that has legs.

The Hyundai Elevate is a blend of car, robot, and Mars rover as a machine for first responders, off-roading and explorers.

A normal car or 4 x 4 truck would get stuck at the edge of an accident site of collapsed buildings, cars and debris. The Elevate can climb over and walk to the area in need of assistance.

Hyundai says that, with its CRADLE modular platform, the main body that sits on top of the walking wheels and drive train can be exchanged for different options, including an autonomous option directed by AI. They have a taxi concept that can climb stairs to an entrance of a building, allowing a disabled person to exit closer to their front door.

Check out the video below to see all of the possibilities.

It is truly an amazing time to be alive.

Purdue Engineering researchers have developed a system that can show what people are seeing in real-world videos, decoded from their fMRI brain scans — an advanced new form of  “mind-reading” technology that could lead to new insights in brain function and to advanced AI systems.

The research builds on previous pioneering research at UC Berkeley’s Gallant Lab, which created a computer program in 2011 that translated fMRI brain-wave patterns into images that loosely mirrored a series of images being viewed. To read the rest of the article, check it out here. MORE...

With barely a mention in the news, this article touches base on Artificial Intelligence passing the same test given to chimpanzees. It's just a little chilling to think that it's no big deal. Who knows what is possible from here. Yes, let the debates begin.

Below is an excerpt of the article on New Scientist written by By Donna Lu

"Artificial intelligence has passed a classic theory of mind test used with chimpanzees. The test probes the ability to perceive the world from the view of another individual and so AIs with this skill could be better at cooperating and communicating with humans and each other. "
